How To

How to make a perfect Omelette

Omelets is one of my favourite breakfast foods. But how do you make them perfectly? There are many recipes and methods I tried, but none worked. I have some tips and tricks to help you make delicious, fluffy omelets every single morning.

Before we start making omelets, let's remember that eggs are temperamental. The eggs must be fresh from an organic source and kept at room temperature until they are ready to be cooked. They must be kept cool, otherwise the whites will not form properly and the yolks may become runny. Your omelets will look strangely colored if this happens. If you want to make omelets right away, it's best not to use eggs that are too cold.

Another tip is to separate your egg before adding it into the pan. You don't want the white to get mixed with the yolk, as this could cause the egg to curdle.

You could end up burning the bottom half of the egg if the egg is added directly to the heat source. Instead, heat the egg in a microwave for 10 seconds and then place it in a pan. The microwave heat cooks the eggs just right without overcooking them.

Let's now talk about mixing eggs. When you mix eggs together, you want to beat them well. Turn the bowl upside down and grab the whisk to do this. Now shake the bowl vigorously. The egg will be thoroughly mixed in the bowl as the air is whipped.

The fun part is now - adding the milk to the mixture. Mix half of the milk with the eggs. Then fold the eggs in half into the remaining milk. Don't worry if there are still streaks of egg visible; these streaks will disappear once you flip the omelet.

After you have folded your eggs, heat up the oil on medium heat. Wait for it to get hot. Once the oil has gotten hot, add 1/4 cup of butter and swirl it around so that the entire pan is coated. The lid should be carefully opened. Sprinkle salt in the pan. An additional pinch of salt will prevent the omelet form sticking to your pan.

Once the omelet forms, cover the pan again. Let the top side set completely. Use a spatula to flip the omelet or turn the pan upside-down. Cook the other side for about a minute. Serve immediately after removing the omelet from its pan.

This recipe is best when used with whole milk. But, you can use skimmed milk as well.
